Complete List of Fall Albums
I need to revise that now, partly because a couple more live LPs have subsequently been released; plus there's one compilation I didn't include first time round. The two live albums are Out Ferroviarios (recorded at the OUT.FEST Festival in Portugal, 12 October 2013) and Rock Against Racism Xmas Party (recorded at Stretford in December 1977).
[I'm doing a new post rather than amending the old one because WordPress - where I did the original - is now horrifically un-user-friendly.]
The compilation that I didn't include was an eponymous one that came out on the PVC label in 1986. PVC was a sublabel of New Jersey-based Passport Records, which folded in 1988. The reason that I didn't originally include it was the fact that it's more an expanded version of the ‘Rollin’ Dany’ single than a proper compilation album. On one side it contained the three songs from the ‘Dany’ 12”, plus ‘Vixen’ and ‘Barmy’ – and then it repeated them on the other. However, given that Paul Hanley mentioned it in his intro to my book (coming soon!), I added it to You Must Get Them All and so it appears here.
If you include Slates as an album (which I am - send complaints on a postcard to the Outer Hebrides) then all of this means that the new magic number is:
162
[32 studio albums + 53 compilations + 77 live albums]
[Updated April 2022 to include the Fall Take America box set]
Studio Albums
Great list, thank you. First of all, "Slates," especially in the new 12" format, I definitely include as a studio album. I have every studio album you list, but am missing 6 on actual vinyl as I was buying CD's in the 90s and '00s and some are now tough to track down. Bad mistake on my part, I know.
ReplyDeleteOK, this list begs the question: If you have all the studio albums, "Which compilations are necessary?"
I actually have "The Early Years 77-19" on the turntable right now and know its essential. I also think that "458489 B Sides" is also essential. But those are obvious. Which ones have enough non-studio album tracks/recordings that make them worth tracking down and aren't just introductions to the bands material?
Sincerely,
Archibald Yates
